Africa Pavillion at COP21: Taking forward the implementation of national climate-smart agriculture programmes in East Africa.

Venue: Salle 2 of the Africa Pavilion, Le Bourget - 18:00 - 19:30hrs
Date: Friday December 4 2015
Event will take place at the African Pavilion which will run alongside COP21 in Paris.

The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), East Africa together with the East African Community (EAC) will host a side event  providing an opportunity to dialogue on the appropriate policy and financing mechanism to scale-up the adoption of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices in defined farming systems in Africa. The event will build on experiences on “supporting preparation of country CSA programs in five countries in eastern and southern Africa”. This program is the result of collaboration among partners namely; the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the East African Community (EAC), the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). The purpose of this program is to support countries to synergize their National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIPs) and agricultural sector programmes with their respective National Climate Change Strategies and Action Plans. This will ensure a common and holistic approach by all the stakeholders in their quest to transform the agriculture sector in a changing climate.
